I would like to start by thanking all the crucial members of the Turville set up who make it possible for us to have the summers of cricket we are so lucky to have. I would like to thank the tireless efforts of James Hunt, Rob Berry and Nick Henry who stepped in to produce a fantastic set of cricket pitches for the 2025 season following John Hancock’s injury. Further thanks to our long-standing Fixture Secretary Tom White whose work ensures we get a diary packed with fixtures and to Nick Henry, who as Club Secretary ensures the organisation and administration of the club is never out of kilter. Finally, I would like to quickly thank Alex Smith and James Hunt who stepped as Captain for the large
majority of the season following an injury on my end. It was enormously appreciated and I hope it isn’t required again.

My apologies to all the TPCC players for not having the presence I was hoping for
during my first season as Captain.

During the 2025 season, Turville played a total of 20 games, winning 11 (55%), losing 8 and tying 1. We started the season with a fantastic tour of Granada in Southern Spain with thanks to Pete Briffett for your work in organising this and to the Simon Family for their hospitality. The ground was a beautiful setting with the snow-covered Sierra Nevada overlooking us in the background. The Saturday
40-over game was a one-sided affair with Turville unable to chase a hefty 348 run total set by the hosts. We returned in good spirits to chase 182 in the first of two 20/20s that day. Keeping in touch with the equal nature of the two teams, the final game finished a tie of 164 runs apiece. The tour finished 1-1-1. It was great to welcome first-time tourists Marc Lynch and Rob Berry with us and to
have Colin and Sarah Simon back on tour. Looking towards the 2026 season, we are touring Vatican City playing the St Peter’s Cricket Club in March in what will no doubt be a special weekend.

Of course, the most important fixture in the Turville calendar is our Vice President’s Day at Wormsley, which in the 2025 edition proved another successful outing. The game ended with the VP’s XI winning by 2 runs. Thank you to all who attended and donated to the club that day. It is such a hugely important day for the club, and my gratitude goes to VPs for their generosity.

In August, we once again beat Stonor CC by 139 runs to extend our hold on the Hunt Cup. Looking at the season awards, the batting was once again dominated by the Hunts. James pipped Charlie to top run-scorer with 438 runs, whilst Charlie boasted the highest batting average of 68.50. Overall, three centuries were scored with James and Charlie adding one each to their ever-growing
haul and George Ing who scored his first 100 for the club with the season’s top score of 121. Tom White took home the bowling prize for most wickets with 14 for the season. Finn Shillington on debut took the best bowling figures with the season’s only five wicket haul, claiming 5-26 off 6 overs. In alignment with Turville’s desire to share the workload, a total of 29 players took a wicket for the club this season. The Champagne Moment of the Season was won by Sam Stockings for his efforts (despite his father dropping one as wicket-keeper moments prior) in securing his first (of what will no doubt be many) Turville wicket aged 10.
