I would like to start by thanking all the crucial members of the Turville set-up who make it possible for us to enjoy the summers of cricket that we are so fortunate to have.

In particular, I would like to thank James Hunt, Rob Berry, and Nick Henry for their tireless efforts in producing a fantastic set of cricket pitches for the 2025 season following John Hancock’s injury. Further thanks go to our long-serving Fixture Secretary, Tom White, whose work ensures we enjoy a packed and varied fixture list each season, and to Nick Henry, who, as Club Secretary, keeps the organisation and administration of the club running smoothly.

Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to Alex Smith and James Hunt, who stepped in as captain for the majority of the season following an injury on my part. Their support was enormously appreciated, and I hope it will not be required again. My apologies to all TPCC players for not having the presence I had hoped for during my first season as captain.

During the 2025 season, Turville played a total of 20 matches, winning 11 (55%), losing 8, and tying 1.

We began the season with a fantastic tour of Granada in southern Spain. My thanks go to Pete Briffett for organising the trip and to the Simon family for their wonderful hospitality. The ground provided a spectacular setting, with the snow-covered Sierra Nevada mountains forming a stunning backdrop.

The Saturday 40-over fixture proved a one-sided affair, with Turville unable to chase the hosts’ imposing total of 348 runs. However, spirits remained high as we returned to pursue 182 in the first of two T20 matches that day. Reflecting the competitiveness between the two sides, the final game ended in a tie, with both teams scoring 164 runs. The tour concluded with a record of one win, one loss, and one tie.

It was particularly pleasing to welcome Marc Lynch and Rob Berry on their first tour, while also having Colin and Sarah Simon join us once again. Looking ahead to 2026, we are set to tour Vatican City in March, where we will take on St Peter’s Cricket Club in what promises to be a memorable weekend.

Of course, the most important fixture in the Turville calendar remains our Vice President’s Day at Wormsley, which once again proved a tremendous success in 2025. The match finished with the VP’s XI securing victory by just two runs. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the club on the day. It remains one of the club’s most important annual events, and I am extremely grateful to our Vice Presidents for their continued generosity and support.

In August, we once again defeated Stonor CC, this time by 139 runs, extending our hold on the Hunt Cup.

Season Awards

The batting honours were, once again, dominated by the Hunt family.

• James Hunt finished as the club’s leading run-scorer with 438 runs.
• Charlie Hunt recorded the highest batting average, finishing with an impressive 68.50.
• Three centuries were scored during the season:
  • James Hunt
  • Charlie Hunt
  • George Ing, who registered his maiden century for the club and the highest individual score of the season with 121.

In the bowling department:

• Tom White claimed the most wickets, taking 14 across the season.
• Finn Shillington produced the best bowling figures on debut, recording the club’s only five-wicket haul of the year with 5 for 26 from 6 overs.
• In keeping with Turville’s ethos of sharing the workload, a remarkable 29 different players took at least one wicket during the season.

The Champagne Moment of the Season was awarded to Sam Stockings for claiming the first wicket of what we are sure will be a long and successful Turville career, at the age of just 10. This came shortly after his father had put down a chance behind the stumps, making the moment all the more memorable.
